2011 Greenest IT Award Winner

Lipton Chartered Accountants

The accounting industry is one that is "paper heavy".  Accountants work with countless paper files, tax receipts, slips, invoices, medical records and bank records. Traditionally, when Lipton’s accountants leave a client's office, they would be accompanied with several hundred photocopies stuffed in sever file folders.

This year Lipton LLP introduced the "Network in a box".  Accountants are now sent to their client's office with portable scanners; 3G enabled networking hubs, VPN technology, along with a server laptop to house all of the information.  With this technology they are now able to synchronize all of the work back to Lipton’s network without ever having to take a single piece of paper back. Not only has this increased the efficiency while at client locations, it has given Lipton’s accountants the ability to stay on schedule and on budget by keeping administrative costs down.

If time is in fact money, an accountant's entire merit is based on the quality of their work as well as the time spent attempting to accomplish it.  This technology allows Lipton’s accountants to spend more time working and little to no time dealing with non-billable activities, such as photocopying.  Clients appreciate the fact that the time of an engagement is reduced, keeping their bills lower, while management is able to process more work for more clients due to the added availability of time.
